Good afternoon Year 13, I hope you're all happy and well and maintaining some sort of routine. If you haven't already, you'll be hearing from your tutor over the next week for a quick catch up. They'll be calling your parents but if you're around, it'd be lovely for you to have a quick chat with your tutors too. I've made a few phone calls already and it was really lovely to hear how well you're doing and how hard you're all working. I am doing my best to maintain my sanity in my tiny one bed flat! Here are some of things I'm trying to do to take care of my physical and mental health: Maintaining a normal sleep routine.   It is really important to try and wake up at a fairly normal time. I know it can be difficult when you haven't got to get up for anything but it'll really help you feel better and be more productive. Exercising! My Achilles is giving me a bit of jip (probably because I went from doing no running to running every

Happy Friday!

Evening Year 13, Who needs a night out when you can stay in and read my blog post?! Remember I told you that my parents got a sweet new puppy? Well, here he is having his first sniff around the garden (I really hope the video works). You'll be pleased to know that he's doubled in weight in one week!  Congratulations on surviving the first week of self-isolation! I'm sure that many of you have loved it, but that the majority of you have found it difficult at times, which is totally normal. I hope you are all well and have managed to maintain some sort of structure to your day. I am managing to keep sane by going for a long run every day (does 5km count as long?!) and limiting my time watching the news and on my phone. If you are feeling anxious or worried I would definitely recommen d limiting time on your phone and turning off your notifications. Decide on a ti me to watch the headlines and limit this to a couple of times a day. In addition, try and do som

FAQs

Year 13s, How we all doing? Understandably, I've had quite a few students and parents email me with questions regarding A Levels and University places and so I thought I'd do a FAQs blog post. The information has been taken from the UCAS website and the Government website on 25th March and may be subject to change. However, hopefully this will help answer any worries/questions you may have. If I do miss anything, please email me to let me know and I will, of course, update you if any of this information changes. What should I be doing at home? You should be continuing to complete work set by your teachers on SMHW.  It is well worth continuing to work hard in order to convince your teachers that you are on track for your best grade possible. How will my A Level grades be calculated? The UK Government has asked Ofqual (the examinations regulator) to develop a process in England that will provide you with a calculated grade for your A levels. To make sure it’s a fair

Our new reality

Y ear 13, I hope you are well and enjoying your first "working from home" day! I know that last week's news of no exams and no more school won't have quite sunk in yet but I'm hoping that my new blog (inspired by Mr Matthews) will give you something to read/laugh at/think about over the next few months.  I don't know about you, but my week end was odd! My family and I didn't have our usual Mothering Sunday lunch. Instead, we went for a walk with my parent's new puppy and made sure that we kept a safe distance apart from one another. Here is their new puppy, 'Murphy' with my big sister! He isn't allowed to walk yet so we carried him the whole way round 😊  I hope that for those of you that went out on Friday night, you kept a safe distance away from one another πŸ˜‰and that there weren't too many sore heads on Saturday morning. I also hope that you have all logged on to SMHW by now to see what work is being set by your s
